VOYAGER SPOTLIGHT: NAPOLEON

Napoleon, 38 COUNTRIES, 7 CONTINENTS & COUNTING!

Napoleon ecstatic in Egypt! :)

Napoleon ecstatic in Egypt! 🙂

Meet Napoleon. 🙂 Napoleon is an accomplished writer and proud father currently residing in New York.

Home Country: USA.

Where I’ve Been: 7 continents and about 38 Countries. Some favorites are Antarctica, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, Ethiopia, Turkey, Spain and Italy.

Unforgettable Travel Moment: Sleeping overnight in Antarctica with nothing but a sleeping bag. The stars were bright and the air was frigid. My warm sleeping bag allowed me to poke my head out of the top to look at the stars for twenty minutes at a time before my face got too cold. I fell asleep with my face out for a bit and couldn’t feel my nose for a while. When the sun came up, all the surrounding mountains reflected a sparkly pink hue from the snow. I will never forget that moment.

#1 Bucket List Destination: Bali, Indonesia.

My Travel Essentials: Extra pairs of clean underwear, a simple camera, and, most importantly, an open-mind.

What I have learnt while travelling: Everybody in the world is individually different by having their own culture and beliefs. At the same time, everybody is the same because they want the same thing: to be happy and enjoy life.

The most difficult part of travelling is: Expecting everything to be smooth and to not have problems. It doesn’t matter how much I prepare. Inevitably, something will not go according to plans and expectations. This is why an open mind is extremely important. I forgot who said this, “The only difference between and adventure and an ordeal is your attitude.”

Travel tips for other Voyagers interested in budget world travel: Learn from others. I forgot who said this quote too. “ A smart person learns from their own mistakes. A wise person learns from other people’s mistakes.” Before travelling anywhere, do some research first and try to speak to people who have been there before. Always ask and compare prices before buying right away. Learn about the local scams so you don’t get scammed. Travel light. Connect with locals and ask what their favorite thing to do is. Bring digestive enzyme supplements, you never know if what you eat will make you sick.

The best places for budget travel are South East Asia and South America. I have spent months in each place and was able save money. From $1.50 rooms in Thailand to $1 three course meals in Peru, $1000 can last 1-2 months. Stretch your dollar the most in these places. Just because it is cheap doesn’t always mean the quality is poor.

Look into Travel Hacking to get really cheap flights. My most memorable trip was when I went to 7 continents in 4 months for only $241 in flight costs! 🙂  The trip would have cost $13,000 if I paid full cost. With Travel Hacking methods, you can go anywhere in the world and not worry about flight and hotel costs eating away at your budget.
